LOS ANGELES — Vice magazine on Thursday published an article highlighting the phenomenon of fantasy- and monster-themed sex toys.
Titled “The Best Fantasy and Monster Dildos and Sex Toys,” the piece lists a variety of fanciful pleasure devices that offer users what writer Mary Frances “Francky” Knapp calls “a uniquely goblincore masturbation experience.”
“Any tradish expectations to ride a veiny, phallic dildo were bypassed for a design rooted in fantasy, abstraction, and a dose of surrealism,” Knapp adds. “And isn’t that a whole lot more interesting than a cookie-cutter ‘gasm?”
Lovers boutique VP of Marketing Jen May told Vice that the company has been receiving requests from customers and associates “for non-traditional shapes with more unique features,” to help customers explore new nonrepresentational options.
“Not everyone is interested in a phallic-shaped toy,” May noted.
The products selected by Vice include Lovehoney’s glass tentacle dildo, Lovers’ Creature Cocks line, XR Brands’ Creature Cock Monstropus Tentacled Monster Silicone Dildo and Creature Cock Mystique Silicone Unicorn Dildo, and the Ogre Plug, aka “the Shrek buttplug.”
Other notable toys mentioned include Nothosaurus’ notorious Ovipositor Dildo Kit, which allows the user to “help fulfill the sexual fantasy of having eggs laid in your hooha,” and Bad Dragon’s werewolfish David’s Paw.
