LOS ANGELES — Amber Lynn welcomes David Philp, lead singer of U.K. punk band the Automatics, to her "Rock-N-Sexxxy Uncensored" (RNSU) podcast tonight at 7 p.m. (PDT).
“Punk rock is having a moment right now because of the Hulu series 'Pistol,' so I want to hear what lead vocalist David Philp has to say about what it was really like hanging out with those guys,” Lynn said. “I know the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones is featured on some tracks for the Automatics, and I also want to know when an Automatics biopic might be dropping.”
The Automatics played with the Sex Pistols and the Damned at London’s Marquee Club. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the band’s first hit single, "When the Tanks Roll Over Poland Again," was released in 1978. Since then, frontman Phillp has brought British punk to Japan and been interviewed by Ira Glass for NPR’s “This American Life.” This past May, the band reached the Top 10 of U.K. radio DJ and author Mike Read's Heritage Chart with their single "Cold Steel Serenade,” and the single has gone on to appear on several U.K. charts.
“Back then, times were tough, and bands, especially punk bands, had no problem holding up a middle finger to authority, so I’d love to know what they think about politics now since the whole world is like a blazing dumpster fire,” Lynn said. “Today, we need punk and metal bands more than ever, I think.”
