Pioneering 'Sex Coach U' Founder Dr. Patti Britton to Retire in 2023

LOS ANGELES — Dr. Patti Britton, pioneering clinical sexologist and co-founder of Sex Coach U (SCU), will retire next summer after she hand-selects her successor.

Britton will continue to oversee all SCU training until her retirement.

After more than 40 years in the industry, noted a rep, Britton is ready to "dive into other creative projects and passions."

"After receiving her Ph.D. and Masters in Public Health, both in Human Sexuality, Patti went on to become a well-known sex educator and AASECT 'Sex Educator of the Year 2016,' nationally board-certified clinical sexologist and author of five major books covering sexology and sex coaching," the rep said.

"She pioneered the concept of sex coaching, a unique blend of life coaching and sexology. In 2010, her vision for this new approach led her and her late partner Dr. Robert Dunlap to co-found Sex Coach U to train others to use this unique approach to help clients resolve sexual concerns and achieve sexual wellness," explained the rep.

Britton and Dunlap also co-founded the World Association of Sex Coaching (WASC), an independent organization dedicated to upholding high-level credentials and ethics among sex coaching professionals.

She has worked alongside the industry’s "most compelling forces," continued the rep, including Ted McIlvenna, Betty Dodson, Gina Ogden and Candida Royalle. In 2005, she published what is considered the first comprehensive training manual for sex coaching, "The Art of Sex Coaching."

She also recently co-authored the training manual, "Designing and Leading a Successful SAR."

The rep noted Britton has guided "hundreds of students" through the SCU training program and into the workforce as certified sex coaches. This month, SCU accepted a new cohort of students into its program and Britton has committed to shepherding them through the entire program.

"The program remains the same rigorous, in-depth training it has always been and all our students will continue to receive the amazing support and opportunities for connection they’ve always had," Britton said.

She intends that her successor will continue to pursue her combined vision of "sharing the sex-positive belief that pleasure is our divine birthright and celebrating sexual wellness and sexual rights around the world," added the rep.
