Adam & Eve Releases Results of 'Love at First Sight' Survey

HILLSBOROUGH, N. C. — Adam & Eve has released the results of a new survey comparing answers to the question “Have you ever experienced love at first sight?” between now and a decade ago.

This year, when respondents were asked if they have ever fallen in love at first sight, 40% said “yes,” compared to 71% in 2011.

Nearly 47% of those polled said they had never fallen in love at first sight, compared to 22% in 2011, and 13% of the current respondents said they weren’t sure about love at first sight, compared to 7% of those questioned in 2011.

“The sense of falling in love at first sight tends to be a trance-like state where we see ourselves in the other,” said Dr. Jenni Skyler, resident sexologist at Adam & Eve. “It’s a huge hit of dopamine and adrenaline, which can feel super-enticing, even if it ultimately doesn’t manifest in long-term intimacy.”

“My guess is that these numbers reflect the decline in overall optimism our culture is experiencing,” Skyler added.

Director of Marketing Chad Davis said Adam & Eve encourages adults to explore their sexuality within their own comfort levels and boundaries.

“We are happy to provide options and accessories for every stage of relationship,” Davis noted.

The web-based survey of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, conducted by an independent company, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
