LOS ANGELES — #SexTalkTuesday has announced that the Erotic Laborers Alliance of New England (ELA-ONE) will serve as special guest moderator for tomorrow’s edition of the Twitter-based chat show from 5-6 p.m. (PDT) which will focus on the topic of sex worker advocacy.
"ELA-ONE is committed to being a peer-led grassroots organization, focused on providing resources, harm reduction and support for our community," noted a rep. "[They] provide testing, legal and medical assistance, along with care packages, weekly support group meetings and a food program."
Founder Ashley Fires explained the group is "dispelling myths about the conflation of human trafficking and consensual adult erotic labor. We are slowly chipping away at antiquated and harmful legislation by lobbying for sex worker rights, and we hope to help humanize those who engage in sex trade and aid in the decriminalization of sex work."
"Events like this represent an important opportunity to grow the community of sex worker allies and to continue to raise awareness about the many challenges and ongoing discrimination those in the sex trade trade," Fires continued.
Angie Rowntree, producer of #SexTalkTuesday and the founder of Sssh.com, looks forward to the discussion.
"Especially at a time like this, when sex workers are facing mounting discrimination, and are also often subject to violent harm from extremists, we want to support sex workers of all kinds, and hopefully inspire more allies as well," she said.
