Cultural Scientist Madita Oeming to Moderate #SexTalkTuesday

LOS ANGELES — Cultural scientist Madita Oeming will step into the spotlight and discuss "thinking through pornography" as guest moderator for tomorrow's edition of the Twitter-based chat show #SexTalkTuesday.

"With her Master’s thesis 'Moby’s Dick,' Madita entered the field of Porn Studies and is now pursuing her Ph.D. project, 'Porn Addiction — America's Moral Panic of the Digital Age,'" noted a rep.

"Outspoken about all things porn, feminism and sex work, her work has appeared in Vice, Forbes, CBS News and on various podcasts," continued the rep. "She has spoken at international conferences, taught porn classes at various universities and published in the 'Porn Studies' journal. Additionally, she has close ties with the Berlin porn scene, has collaborated with Paulita Pappel and Jiz Lee, used to work for the 'Ersties' podcast and was a member of the feature film jury of the 2018 Pornfilmfestival."

#SexTalkTuesday, produced by Sssh.com founder Angie Rowntree, will unspool from 5-6 p.m. (PST).

"Madita Oeming’s contributions to porn industry advocacy are more timely than ever," said Rowntree. "Without a doubt, she will give everyone plenty to talk about, so we hope all industry fans and friends will join the discussion."

Oeming looks forward to the experience.

"Building bridges between academia and porn has become something like my calling — and Twitter has always been an essential tool for me to do so," she said. "I strongly believe we need more complex ways to think and talk about porn to fight the stigma around it. I hope we can use this #SexTalkTuesday to build some bridges together."

"Overall," Oeming continued, "my goal is to fight stigma through a more nuanced public conversation about porn."

That kind of conversation is "obviously something desperately needed right now,” Rowntree added.
