UKAP Announces Working Groups in Response to #BLM

LONDON — British industry organization U.K. Adult Professionals (UKAP) has announced they are setting up two working groups to discuss the “next steps for combating racial prejudice towards black people and minority ethnicities.”

The two groups are the "Experience Share" group and the "Study and Response" group.

According to a UKAP statement released today, the "Experience Share" group will be “exclusively for black and minority ethnicity adult industry professionals,” a rep explained, who will "have their time paid for with a focus on sharing experiences and identifying problems for the 'Study and Response' group to learn from.”

The "Study and Response" group is open to UKAP members with any background and its positions are unpaid, with the purpose to "look at identified problems with a listening and problem-solving mindset. All proposals will undergo critique and approval or rejection from the 'Experience Share' group. There is no barrier for a member of the 'Experience Share' group volunteering to be in the 'Study and Response' group.”

Among the themes that the groups will cover are porn’s impact on the public and on performers, discrimination in hiring performers and exploring differences in rates, lighting on set and photoshopping, including in scenes with performers with varied skin tones.

“Exhibiting prejudice to black and minority ethnicities is a problem spanning generations,” the UKAP statement continued. “Generations who normalized the behavior into mainstream culture — and porn was not exempt from this. It is important that people who are not black or minority ethnicity do not avoid the learning and labor of making amends to these issues. This work must be steered under the leadership of experts of the experience who are people of black and minority ethnicities.”
