LOS ANGELES — Hustler Magazine published an article this week on adult performers who also perform in the comedy world. Featured in the piece are adult performers Kate Kennedy and Jamie Foster and cam model Allie Awesome.
"Funny Fuckers: Porn Stars Who Are Also Comedians," by Maxwell Van Zandt, also namechecks industry icons like Stormy Daniels and Ron Jeremy who have ventured into standup.
Kennedy told Hustler, "One day I had a scene, and a friend said if I could get five minutes together, I could go onstage at the Comedy Store here in L.A. I did, and it was the best!"
Kennedy also spoke to Van Zandt about the crossover between the two industries in her stage act.
"Porn provides 80 percent of my material," Kennedy said. "I need to challenge myself to write about current events."
Kennedy performs in adult and in stand-up under her stage name, while Awesome, besides performing live, flexes her comedy chops on her ManyVids and Pornhub channels with such videos as "Dad Jokes Make Me Cum" and "Cumming With Cupid."
"Two years ago, I was dating a real jerk, and I was depressed," Awesome told Hustler. "I looked up activities on Groupon and found an improv class. I signed up and fell in love with it."
Having a master's degree in theater helped her get her bearings on stage.
"I’ve been performing onstage since I was a kid," she told Van Zandt. But a bout of stagefright kept her out of the spotlight for a long time; camming, however, helped her incorporate comedy into her adult performances.
"I had a revelation while I was wearing a dildo on my forehead, and it dawned on me that I was onto something," she told Hustler.
Foster, meanwhile, started in stand-up before moving into adult. The 51-year-old, who performs comedy under her real name, Sally Mullins, has had success in both industries. As a comic, she hosts two shows at the legendary Comedy Store in LA. In adult, she's performed in dozens of titles since trying her hand at XXX at the turn of the millennium.
Kennedy spoke with XBIZ about the importance of showing that adult performers aren't one-dimensional.
"I was extremely flattered to be included in it," Kennedy said, "and think it’s wonderful and important to breaking down stigma by showcasing the many other talents adult performers have to offer."
Awesome expressed a similar sentiment in a statement.
"It was so amazing to be part of this article," she said. "It’s awesome that readers get to see another side of us and understand we’re multi-faceted individuals."
