LOS ANGELES — Evil Angel, with its 20 studio directors producing a diverse body of work, hauled in 32 XBIZ Awards nominations for the upcoming 2019 contest.
This year the leading adult studio made a specialty of intimate star showcases, and awards voters noticed — XBIZ recognized 14 movies in its Performer Showcase of the Year category, and Evil Angel took eight of those nods.
XBIZ also cited Evil Angel’s pioneering TS content with a Trans Studio of the Year nomination.
Overall, XBIZ acknowledged the work of 20 of Evil’s diverse directors for accolades, and all of that added up to the nomination for Studio of the Year.
“Content is king,” studio founder John Stagliano declared. “Which is not to say we don’t appreciate the many people who help us with traffic. They are a crucial part of the team. But we remain committed to producing cutting edge content. That attitude is paying off here. The nominations we have received prove that.”
The eight movies under consideration for Performer Showcase of the Year highlight Evil Angel’s concentration on creating exquisite studies of porn luminaries: “I Am Angela” is filmmaker Evil Chris’ hardcore documentary on superstar Angela White; it also garnered a Marketing Campaign of the Year citation. Ace director Jonni Darkko created “Angela By Darkko,” a companion showcase that presents Ms. White with stunning, innovative visuals.
Darkko contributed two more XBIZ-nominated showcases: “Katrina Jade: Addicted To Black” is the title star’s interracial tour de force, and “Taste Of Honey” spotlights honey-skinned beauty Honey Gold.
Stagliano’s “Leigh Raven Prove Something” is both a showcase and a feature, examining an alternative performer’s extreme psychosexual journey.
Veteran lensman Chris Strokes’ “Ariana Marie: A Little Bit Harder” explores a diminutive minx’s graduation to harder sex. Crossover superstar Lisa Ann returned to directing and performing with “Lisa Ann: Back 4 More.”
XBIZ acknowledged all of those with Performer Showcase of the Year nominations, and saved one more for the compilation “Cherie DeVille Is Evil.”
Aubrey Kate, Evil Angel’s TS contract star, earned herself an XBIZ nomination as Transsexual Performer of the Year. XBIZ lauded two of her vehicles, “Aubrey Kate: TS Superstar” and “Aubrey Kate Plus 8,” in the Transsexual Release of the Year category. Aiden Starr directed both of those movies; she and TS porn aficionado Joey Silvera took Trans Director of the Year nominations. The Trans Studio of the Year nod followed.
Director Darkko received a nomination in the Director of the Year — Body of Work category. He and three more Evil filmmakers — Evil Chris, Aiden Riley and Bryan Gozzling — also received noms for Director of the Year — Non-Feature.
Evil Angel director/performer Mick Blue landed a nod in the Male Performer of the Year category. Lisa Ann took a MILF Performer of the Year nomination.
XBIZ recognized legendary Rocco Siffredi for Foreign Male Performer of the Year. Evil Angel anal contract star Katrina Jade garnered a nom for Female Performer of the Year. And new Evil director/performer Jessy Jones grabbed a nomination for Crossover Star of the Year.
“It’s been a great year at Evil Angel — in addition to the directors listed above, BAM Visions, Blackmailed.com, Jay Sin, Jazz Duro, Misha Cross, LeWood, Nacho Vidal, Proxy Paige and Toni Ribas all had work nominated for 2019 XBIZ Awards,” Stagliano said.
The XBIZ Awards, hosted by another adult superstar, Stormy Daniels, will be presented on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, 404 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, California 90071. The awards honor excellence and outstanding achievement in the adult industry.
