Adult Novelty Pioneer Fred Malorrus Passes Away

ST. LOUIS Mo. — Fred Malorrus, founder of Ben Wa Novelty/U.S., passed away on June 13. He was 91 years old.

In 1942, Malorrus began selling adult novelties from his car as he traveled areas from St. Louis to Chicago and New York. In his 64 years in the industry, Malorrus’ company introduced many American consumers to the sex toy market and influenced many adult retailers that came after him.

He is survived by his wife Beatrice, children Farley Malorrus and Melanie Tucker Rovin, three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

“He was a loving, caring, generous, amazing person and he shall be missed,” his son Farley wrote on his Astrology blog. Farley is a Los Angeles radio personality that has appeared on KROQ, KFOX, KNTF and other radio and television programming.

“My dad had a sense of humor that was bar none. No one in my life was funnier with wit and humor as Fred. No matter what happened or how he treated you, no matter how you felt, the sarcasm always reigned to get a belly laugh at the end. He helped so many people in his life and taught so many of his friends, relatives and coworkers that his influence is huge,” Farley said.

Grandson Scott Tucker is president of adult novelty manufacturer/distributor Topco Sales.

Malorrus’ services were held on June 17, Father’s Day, in St. Louis. Memorial contributions can be sent to United Jewish Communities, Attn: Cheryl Lefland, 111 8th Ave., Suite 11E, NY, NY 10011.
