Nekked, comprised of singer/songwriters JC Faust and partner Sinn, won the 2007 GayVN Award for Best Music for the original score of “Michael Lucas’ La Dolce Vita.” The duo also has won an Emmy for music produced for television.
“We had an incredibly fun time working on the music for ‘Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita,’” said Nekked band member Sinn. “Although we've done film and TV work in the past, writing music for steamy sex scenes proved to be quite the challenge musically – but a challenge worth viewing over and over again until we felt we had it just right. And then to win the GayVN for Best Music just topped it off.”
Described as “post modern folk,” the group’s style combines elements of techno, house, acoustic and electronic, as well as original lyrics and vocal harmonies. Their music has been used in previous TV and film work, including “Team America,” “Tales From the Crypt” and “Melrose Place.”
Though the score for Lucas’ multi award-winning film “incorporates our personal style, it is quite different from the music on ‘A Barrier of Skin,’” Sinn said. “For film, you're trying to convey and augment what's going on in the scene, whether it’s for a sex scene or a non sex scene that brings it all together. For our album, which is our first, we wanted to have an electro-acoustic feel and use our vocal and choral talents.”
Several of the album’s tracks were coproduced by artist/producer Richard Morel and a video for one of the album’s tracks, “The Wave That Takes Me Under,” can be seen on YouTube.
Lucas Entertainment President and CEO Michael Lucas said he discovered Nekked when they sent him a sample of their music to review.
“I thought it was great, so I asked them to come in to the office,” Lucas said. “Things went so well that I asked them to do the music and the rest, as they say, is history.”
And while his main focus is adult entertainment, Lucas said he is always open to hearing new music and hopes to work with Nekked more in the future.
“I love Nekked's music and am proud to be getting its sound out to the world,” he said. “It's our first time distributing a music CD on our website, and I don't think it could be with a more fitting artist.”
