Good For Her Manager Chanelle Gallant told XBIZ that winners in the 12 categories are chosen by the company's staff, who use three distinct criteria in their decision.
The winner must encompass at least two of the three necessary components: A woman must have had a prominent role in its production, the film must show authentic female pleasure, and the film must expand the range of sexual expression for women by going beyond the typical stereotypes of female sexuality.
Award categories include Hottest Straight Sex Scene, Hottest Bi Sex Scene, Hottest Diverse Cast — for a film featuring a multiracial cast, but refuses to exoticize its ethnic actors — and Indie Porn Pioneer, for which an independent pornographer is showcased.
The night will begin with a panel of top female industry members. Anna Span, Britain's first female adult director, will be on hand, as well as erotic documentary producer Peggy Comstock and queer, ethnic erotic producer Shine Louise Houston. The women will discuss the various ways feminism plays a role in their work.
Attendees also will enjoy a Jenna Jameson tribute drag show, as well as a burlesque performance with an oversized, hollowed-out cake as a special prop.
Gallant urges all to attend, and said that just because the awards are for feminist porn does not mean that men are not welcome. She said films made by men are always considered in Good For Her's award decision.
"When they hear 'feminist porn,' people assume it's softcore with romance in all of them," Gallant said. "Our winners cross all genres," which she said surprises people.
This year's awards show will be held at the Gladstone Ballroom, a brick barroom that can hold up to 300 guests, which is approximately how many appeared at last year's event, Gallant said.
The Gladstone Ballroom is located at 1214 Queen St. West. Entrance costs $15 in advance and $18 at the door. The show will begin 8 p.m.
