Industry Tees Up to Support Haven House

TARZANA, Calif. — Monday was a perfect day for golf and the Braemar Country Club in Tarzana the perfect setting, as about 140 golfers — many of them from the adult entertainment industry — made their way onto the course for the 4th Annual Haven House Golf Tournament, held to benefit the nation’s oldest shelter of its kind, founded in 1964 by a local AlAnon group to provide temporary sanctuary to families of violent alcoholics.

Players were treated to a continental breakfast during a registration process that included gifts for the participants. By 11:30 a.m., 36 groups of players began a shotgun start for the best ball scramble-style tournament. Organized by Haven House, the day featured a barbecue lunch, a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse snack-station on the seventh hole and photos with Vivid Contract girls Lanny Barby and Kayden Kross.

The adult industry was out in force to show its support with sponsorships by Vivid, Waat Media, Fling.com, Playboy TV, WebQuest, Girls Gone Wild, VideoSecrets, New Sensations, Pulse Distribution, Red Light District, AVN and the law firm of Lipsitz, Greene, Scime & Cambria. There were many mainstream sponsors as well, including Red Bull, Absolut Vodka and Budweiser, to name a few.

“This is an amazing thing,” Sheila Halfon, Haven House executive director, told XBIZ. “We haven’t figured it out yet, but I believe this year [the tournament] will raise $90,000. Let me give you an idea of what that will do for us. $10,000 maintains one of our residential cottages for a year; $5,000 covers our utility costs for the children and teen center for a year; $3,000 provides three months of group counseling sessions; $2,000 provides 45 days of safe shelter for one person; $625 provides four holiday parties for children in residence, and $300 provides snacks for the children’s program for a month.”

Some of this year's players included Bruce Benevento from Webquest, Kjell Petridis from L3 Payments, Mike from Vivid Cash, Ycaza Thrush from OC-3 Networks, Shahan Ohanessian from MediaConductor, John Skorick from WEGCash, Chuck Tsiamis and Greg Clayman from Video Secrets, Mike M from SexEntertain, Sean Holland from NS Cash and Stephen Bugbee from XBIZ, to name a few.

After the tournament, players were treated to dinner, a raffle, a silent auction and a live auction with master of ceremonies Bob Saget, who entertained the group with a comedy set one of the attendees described as “hilarious yet rude,” a fitting end to a fun event that also benefited a great cause.
