Wicked Pictures Lobbies in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — Wicked Pictures' David Stanley and Joy King joined forces with other industry representatives to visit members of the California Legislature on Monday.

King, Wicked's vice president of special projects, and Stanley, Wicked contract director, took part in the 10th annual Celebrate Free Speech Lobbying Days, a yearly initiative organized by the Free Speech Coalition.

Representatives from all areas of the adult business were in attendance to answer questions and provide interviews.

"Lobbying on behalf of the industry was an extremely gratifying experience this year," King said. "With two bills to oppose we hit the ground running and accomplished a great deal. I'm proud and honored to be part of the political process and make sure that the voice of the adult entertainment industry is heard in the state capitol."

For King, the Lobbying Days appearance coincided with several media stories she has participated in recently, including a current Playgirl magazine profile devoted to female executives in adult entertainment, and a PR Weekly piece focused on the marketing of adult entertainment within the mainstream media.

Stanley, after his first trip to Sacramento, said, "In all, it was a great experience. I learned a lot, and hopefully I brought a fresh perspective to the people I met with. I look forward to doing this again."

FSC Executive Director Diane Duke and California Lobbyist Matt Gray were on hand to discuss important issues and bills currently facing the adult entertainment industry, including controversial SB 915, which would authorize cities to zone homes that house sex offenders as "adult oriented businesses."

Also discussed was the similarly controversial AB 1551, from Assemblyman Charles Calderon, D-Whittier, which pushes the controversial "Adult Entertainment Venue Tax." King, Duke, Gray and industry performer Mary Carey personally met with Calderon to voice their views on his proposed legislation.
