California Exotic Novelties Addresses Phthalates Use

CHINO, Calif. — Sex toy manufacturer California Exotic Novelties in a press release has ensured retailers and consumers of product safety relative to its use of phthalates, a chemical used to soften plastics and often found in flexible adult toys.

The company said the minimal amount of phthalates that some of its products contain has no correlation with human health issues. CalExotics relied on results of several international studies to determine its products are harmless to users.

In a 1982 study, high doses of phthalates were found to cause various health problems in lab rodents, including cancer. Whether those results can be attributed to humans, however, has been debated.

CalExotics also offers a line of phthalate-free products. A list of these items is available via email.

The company plans to clearly mark its product packaging with ingredients labels to inform consumers of what they are purchasing.
