Jeff Thayler of Epoch, Karen Campbell of Netbilling, Lee Falls of Electracash and Ron Cadwell of CCBill answered questions one by one, giving their own personal opinions regarding the challenges of running payment processing companies, what they'd like to see from clients and what billing options should be offered to users in countries where credit cards are not traditionally used.
Thayler professed the goal of billing companies like his is to find ways to make clients make money. "We only make money if we make you rich," he said, encouraging webmasters to become more involved and provide input to help the companies do their jobs better.
The panel agreed that they prefer to work with clients in adult for the long term and run an honest business; Webmasters must deliver what they offer, and this sort of dishonesty hurts more than merely reputations. Thayler said VISA and MasterCard monitor websites using their services, and when they see sites doing business outside of the agreed guidelines, they can terminate service.
Along with honest business, the panel urged webmasters to keep all consumers in mind and utilize all reputable billing options. Credit cards bring in the most income, of course, but Thayler outlined the various other ways users can pay for content.
Online checks allow users to purchase adult content without the paper trail that VISA or MasterCard leaves. Debit cards and pre-paid cards are other effective payment methods, and in growing markets in Asia, pay-by-phone is ideal for users who don't use plastic or e-paper.
