Ondo Creation’s Musical Condoms Promote Relaxed Sex

HONG KONG — Ondo Creation has combined its brand of designer condoms with its own music label, Ondomusic, to create a new line that promotes safe — yet trendy — sex.

The idom is a set of three colored-and-flavored condoms accompanied by a four-track music disc packaged in a CD-like case. Customers choose from four flavors — mint, berry, chocolate, and banana — and three different music moods. The artists providing the dance, jazz and “chill-out” styles are members of the Ondomusic record label.

Ondo Creation’s manager, Victor Tsang, said Ondo created the idom to provide a fun and relaxed environment for “more conservative” users who want to practice safe sex without the discomfort that sometimes comes from shopping for and using condoms.

“We try to create products that are not embarrassing, but very trendy and hip. It’s a lifestyle product,” Tsang said.

After the company won a bronze medal at the 2006 Industrial Design and Excellence Awards, BusinessWeek magazine reported Ondo did excellent work to “revitalize the image of condoms and redefine traditional condom distribution channels.”

The idom is sold primarily in bookstores, record shops and popular nightspots, rather than in pharmacies or convenience marts, to further the product’s image.
