TOKYO — It appears as though Japan’s respect for their elders even applies to porn.
The Japan Times reported a number of senior citizens are appearing in adult films, some even making their debuts.
Yasue Tomita, a 61-year old performer is part of what’s being called “silver porn” or “geronto porn” — a burgeoning AV (adult video) industry where it’s being accepted that love and sex are not limited to the young.
“I like my handicrafts but I wanted to try my hand at this while my body still works,” Tomita told the Times. “I do like sex, and this is my last chance before I get too old. I’m very nervous. I wonder if I should really do it, especially in front of so many people, but everyone should follow their dream.
She added, “I just hope I can keep up."
Tomita said she and her daughter both applied to a talent agency over the Internet and she was the first to get a job.
The report said that about 32 million people — a quarter of the population — are 65 or over and the segment will continue to grow, possibly fueling even more senior porn stars.
in fact, senior porn has rocketed over the past decade according to the report. Adult movies featuring wrinkly men and women account for between 20 and 30 percent of the overall porn market.
“Everyone has different sexual tastes or fetishes,” director Fumiaki Kimura said. “Elderly porn has become very popular over the past 10 years or so. Older couples watch together because they can feel a connection, a sense of closeness or familiarity, being the same age.
“It’s like a forbidden pleasure. Young people watch it because they’re fed up with the regular stuff — whatever turns you on. You do hear about actors taking Viagra, but that can be dangerous for the older guys.”
Another actress, Natsuko Kayama, 44, a porn star with 25 years of experience in the industry, said she’d love to be the oldest AV actress. “I want to break the record if I can — if I last that long.”
