Lovehoney Expands Office Space, Adds New Jobs

BATH, England — Lovehoney announced today that it is has acquired new office space in Bath, U.K. as it gears up for a bumper 2015.

The online sex toy retailer has boosted its floor space by a fifth and has moved some staff into a new building across the road from its current headquarters.

Along with the expansion, the company has hired 40 new staff since October — bolstering its workforce to 162 — up from 61 just two years ago.

The expansion comes as Lovehoney prepares for what it expects to be its busiest-ever Christmas and Valentine's Day — with demand fuelled by the release of the new "Fifty Shades of Grey" film in February next year. Lovehoney has the worldwide exclusive rights to all official "Fifty Shades of Grey" sex toys.

"Bath is a brilliant place to do business. It has a fantastic talent pool, a strong digital scene and is a beautiful city to live and work in. We couldn't be more pleased to be expanding our business here and creating new jobs," Lovehoney co-owner Neal Slateford said.

Lovehoney predicts its busiest Christmas shopping day will be on Dec. 15 when it expects to sell more sex toys than any day in its 12-year history.

Slateford added, "We tend to find our busiest period is a little later than some other retailers — a few weeks after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We find that couples will buy their main present slightly earlier and will then use us a little later for smaller presents and stocking fillers. We are the natural destination for people looking for treats for secret Santas."

Lovehoney said its profits rose to £2.25 million for the financial year ending March 2013. Its turnover increased by £8 million from £15.6 million to £23.6 million.

The company noted that it has also hired "a small army of seasonal workers" as Christmas and Valentine's orders can hit 10,000 a day. It also has fresh vacancies for a systems administrator and a computer engineer.
