Cam4 Community Raises $18K for Charities

LOS ANGELES — Over the past two months, the Cam4 community came together to raise more than $18,000 for international charity campaigns. In October, $12,712 was raised for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while an additional $5,500 goes towards Movember. Members, staff, and broadcasters with the webcam-based social networking site exceeded their $10,000 goal, and more than doubled last year’s donations.

“Our site’s social networking aspect has created such an amazing ‘CAMmunity’ of strong, sex-positive members,” said Cam4 spokesperson Alison Wright. “They jumped in with both feet when we announced our Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results of our collective efforts. We are humbled by the outpouring of support by our members, and are pleased to make this donation to BCRF and Movember on everyone’s behalf.”
 
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held every October, is dedicated to a variety of activities and fundraisers to increase awareness of the disease. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation works not just to find a cure, but also to find the cause. Breast cancer affects the families, children, friends, and lovers of women diagnosed with breast cancer; according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. The Susan G Komen Foundation reports more than 232,000 American women are estimated to receive some sort of breast cancer diagnosis in 2014 alone. Those whose cancer is detected early have a 98 percent survival rate after five years.
 
Members of Cam4.com were able to purchase items from the site’s pink series of virtual gifts to contribute to its fundraising effort. In addition, members held raffles for its CAM4Cares campaign and participated in its one-day “Handbra Day” fundraiser.
 
Cam4’s charitable efforts extend beyond awareness of women’s health issues, focusing on men’s health and ‘Movember’ in November. The annual global event, launched in 2004 by the Movember Foundation in Australia, involves the growing of moustaches during November to raise awareness of men’s health issues including prostate and other male cancers.
