SugarDVD Planning an App for Oculus Rift VR Headset

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — SugarDVD is working on an app for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.

The North Hollywood, Calif.-based adult company says it's planning to stream movies and content to the device. It currently is working with motion-capture studios in Los Angeles to generate original, virtual reality-optimized content that will take full advantage of the Oculus Rift’s technology.

The app likely will be completed soon because SugarDVD execs plan to show it off at the upcoming E3 tradeshow in Los Angeles.

“[It will be] similar to a ‘choose your own adventure’ type of experience," Rebecca Bolen, as SugarDVD spokeswoman, told GamesBeat. "We already have these options for DVDs and movies with alternate ‘endings’ depending on what the viewer chooses, so we are looking forward to integrating those features into virtual reality.”

“When our demo comes out, we will need beta testers,” Bolen said. “We will pick the first batch of testers out of our subscriber list, so sign up if you want to get your hands on our virtual reality app first.”

SugarDVD already offers all-you-can-eat services for $8 per month, enabling users to load up porn on their smartphones, PlayStation 4 or set-top box.

Oculus Rift has shipped about 75,000 of its headsets to game developers, but it has yet to announce a public debut. In a deal announced in March, Facebook is paying $400 million in cash and about $1.6 billion in stock for the company, with up to $300 million more depending on Oculus Rift's performance.
