LOS ANGELES — A new reality TV show where relationship-challenged couples have sex in an enclosed box on stage and then immediately discuss what went on with a panel of sex experts is about to air in the U.S.
The show, which originated in the U.K., is being brought to the U.S. by AMC Network’s We tv in an hour-long pilot.
According to the producers, the show “fosters conversations about intimacy that are completely filter less and emotionally honest.”
WE tv President Marc Juris said, “Sex Box is an intriguing and original concept from a top production partner and we’re very excited about its potential, which has already been clearly demonstrated overseas — where it’s a hit.”
The show reportedly drew nearly a million viewers in the U.K. last October and lit up social media.
Issues including porn, gay sex, extra-marital affairs and other subjects were explored in the U.K. show where the couples who had sex in the box then chatted about their experiences In front of a live audience.
The concept is borrowed from leading researchers and counselors who encourage participants to talk about their experiences in a “grownup conversation" while their feelings are still fresh, vivid and fruitful.
The U.K. panelists included sex expert and gay columnist Dan Savage, author Tracey Cox and psychotherapist Phillip Hodson.
