LONDON — Around 1,000 "extreme porn" DVDs were seized by police in a crackdown on an array of unlicensed goods all around London.
More than 400 people were arrested during a series of raids carried out by 4,000 officers as part of Operation Condor, which was carried out across the U.K. capitol last Friday and Saturday.
The porn was discovered in Barnet, North London, police told local news outlets. Counterfeit cigarettes, alcohol and jewelry were also seized from other venues.
Police also targeted brothels and checked sex workers' identification cards, in addition to ensuring that bars, pubs and clubs were properly licensed.
"Licensing-related crime affects many of our daily activities, from shops and supermarkets who sell knives or alcohol to young people and pubs and clubs who increase the risk of anti-social behavior and violence by not ensuring alcohol is sold responsibly, ” said Mak Chisty, who led the operation.
"We will continue to commit resources to these problems in order to reduce crime and increase public confidence," Chisty added.
Officers carrying out the raids toiled more then 48 hours last weekend. The recent raids marked the sixth batch ordered under Operation Condor since its advent. Scotland Yard reported that the operation has so far led to more than 20,000 arrests.
