SmashBucks Acquires VCX Classics Library for New Site

LOS ANGELES — While the “Golden Age” of porn has come and gone, SmashBucks’ acquisition of more than 200 classic titles from VCX assures its movies won’t be forgotten.

With such iconic films like “Debbie Does Dallas,” “The Devil in Miss Jones” and the “Taboo” series, VCX, founded by the late Norm Arno, established itself as an early market leader just as VHS sales were booming.

The purpose of the SmashBucks and VCX partnership is to feature the studio’s content on OriginalPornStars.com, a monthly membership site that is set to launch on Oct. 15 that will be part of the SmashBucks affiliate program. Prior to the deal, VCX’s movies were available only through a video-on-demand platform.

The joint venture was three years in the making according to SmashBucks owner Mike Hawk.

“Well, this is actually a funny story,” Hawk told XBIZ. “Three years ago at the Miami Internext show, David Sutton, the owner of VCX, approached us at our booth wanting to check us out because we were one of the very few that had classic movie sites. So that started the friendship between VCX and us. It was decided then that the VCX titles were a perfect fit for our business, but because of a distrust issue between the online industry and the film studios, it took time to make it a comfortable arrangement for all parties involved. This not only forged a business relationship, but a great friendship too.”

The one-of-a-kind footage in the VCX library stretches across generations, SmashBucks’ Harley Girl told XBIZ. The company’s content was released just as the home videocassette market exploded across the country.

“Most people when they hear a classic title like ‘Debbie Does Dallas’ they laugh and respond with a giggle, ‘Oh, I remember that movie.’ It takes them back to a time and a place. So to not have these classic movies available online in a world that has essentially gone digital is unfortunate. We’re going to change that.”
