Arrow Productions Gets Comfortable With T-Shirt Licensing

LAS VEGAS — Proving that the boundaries of intellectual property go far beyond the confines of DVD titles and Internet downloads, Arrow Productions, home to such classic titles as “Deep Throat,” “The Devil in Miss Jones” and “Debbie Does Dallas,” to name a few, has signed a licensing agreement with t-shirt retailer Bang-On.

Under the terms of the deal, Arrow has licensed more than 60 of its classic titles to Bang-On, which operates more than 150 retail stores throughout the U.S. and Canada as well as a website.

Robert Interlandi, who handles licensing for Arrow, told XBIZ that customers can visit Bang-On stores, select a blank t-shirt and choose from any of the 60 Arrow titles and logos.

“It’s almost like a custom t-shirt,” Interlandi said. “A customer can make a lot of different combinations. The shirts are a retro style, which is really hip right now, and everyone is very excited about them.”

For Interlandi, who recently launched a licensing deal with Rancho Dominquez, Calif.-based Charades Costume Co. to make and sell costumes inspired by popular Arrow titles such as “Candy Stripers,” licensing represents a potentially huge and untapped market.

“This is way beyond driving movie sales,” Interlandi said. “Our titles are iconic; people really want products related to our films.”

According to Interlandi, Bang-On debuted the t-shirt at a recent apparel industry tradeshow to widespread success, adding that Arrow plans to take its licensing potential to the lingerie market in the near future.
