Sunny Leone Doubts India Will Develop a Porn Industry

NEW DELHI — In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, former porn starlet Sunny Leone discussed (amongst other things) the difference between sexual expression in the U.S. and India.

Speaking from the unique position of a freshly minted Bollywood celeb with an American “adult past,” Leone explained that India is unlikely to begin producing porno in an industry akin to the U.S.’s.

While she acknowledged that Indians certainly consume a hearty helping of porn, she believes that the culture is simply too “conservative” to consider launching an adult biz of its own anytime soon.

“But let me tell you that the U.S. is not as liberal as you guys seem to think. People don’t discuss sex over lunch and dinner,” Leone said, pointing out that the U.S. struggles with its own brand of sexual repression.

The interview encompassed a broad swath of other topics, including Leone’s monogamous marriage to Daniel Weber, who hails from the mainstream business world. She said that the two are planning on purchasing a house in Mumbai and starting a family, but until then her primary focus is on her Bollywood film projects,Tina and Lolo,” “Ragini MMS 2” and “Jackpot.”

Leone has also endorsed India’s leading adult lifestyle webstore, IMBesharam.com, sustaining her status as a national erotic symbol.

“She has always had a free lifestyle, a completely self-made woman, who has worked hard and stood her ground in face of criticism and cynicism,” said Raj, co-founder of the site. “Finally, she is at a place where people have accepted her, they admire her, they respect her for what she is and the decisions she makes.”
