JOHANNESBURG, South Africa —The launch of Top TV’s porn channels has been delayed due to a business rescue process the South African company is undergoing, the Sunday Times reported.
After a long deliberative process and two applications, the satellite broadcaster's parent company On Digital Media was approved in April to air three adult content channels by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.
Peter van den Steen, On Digital Media’s business rescue practitioner, told the Sunday Times that the plan was taking longer than expected because of its unconventional nature.
He added that a consulting agreement between On Digital Media and the Chinese firm StarTimes is underway and almost complete.
“A funding agreement has also been prepared that will allow StarTimes to provide ongoing working capital funding to On Digital Media,” he said. “This will be signed once all the other agreements have been signed, in order to minimize the risk to StarTimes.”
The company had hoped to remedy its ongoing financial woes and save 250 jobs with the addition of porn to its content repetoire.
Top TV has not announced a projected date for the launch of their adult channels, Playboy TV, Desire TV and Private Spice.
