JILIN, China — Passers-by got a surprise porn screening when a maintenance worker accidentally played the banned film on a giant LED screen outside a Chinese railway station, the Herald Sun reported.
The worker, identified as Yuan, was contracted to fix the screen. He began watching “The Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks” on his computer, not realizing that it was connected to the screen outside.
The film played for about 10 minutes before the ad company that owned the screen found out about the incident and asked Yuan to pull the plug. He did and promptly flung the disk out the window.
Hundreds of locals reportedly stopped to watch.
The porn is based on a classic Chinese erotic novel, “The Plum in the Golden Vase,” set in the northern Song Dynasty in the early 12th century, the Herald Sun said. It follows Ximen Qing, a corrupt social climber, and his six wives and 19 concubines as they struggle for prestige and influence.
The film features explicit sex scenes and is banned on the Chinese mainland. The novel has been banned for centuries.
According to Chinese law, individuals convicted of spreading porn material can be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
