LA Weekly Touts Smash Pictures' '50 Shades' Spoof

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Smash Pictures' Vice President Stuart Wall spoke to LA Weekly blog AfterDarkLA.com about the studio's upcoming parody of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades" book series, now titled "50 Shades: A XXX Adaptation."

"This year we started branching off into the romance line of adult shoots," Wall told AfterDarkLA blogger Barbie Davenporte. "Porn seems to have changed and I get more fan mail from women than men these days.

"Since they are going to make a mainstream [film] of the books, too, dabbling in the adult world, we're choosing to go with a XXX adaption which will stay very true to the book and its S&M-themed romance."

Wall went on to assure the site that the parody's cast and director, Jim Powers, were all reading James' erotic trilogy to familiarize themselves with the material and do the books justice, acknowledging that the project is quickly becoming Smash's most anticipated movie ever.

"Just from our Twitter and the few news stories so far, the response seems to show that this just might be our biggest film to date," Wall noted.

"50 Shades: A XXX Adaptation" is slated for a September release. The film stars Allie Haze and Ryan Driller as college virgin Anastasia Steele and young billionaire Christian Grey, Julia Ann as Christian's one-time sex teacher and Alexis Ford as Anastasia's best friend Katherine Kavanaugh.
