TARANTO, Italy — Two Italian porn stars competing to become mayor of a southern coastal city are giving new meaning to the words “polling place.”
Amandha Fox and Luana Borgia have organized a pole dancing competition next month in their Taranto town where local voters can hear the election issues straight from the candidates.
Both perfromers are well-know dancers and porn stars who have appeared in a host of hardcore movies and own popular Italian websites.
Talent agent Mimmo Pavese told the U.K.'s The Sun, "We want to be fair so we would like to invite any other candidate to come along and dance too."
Fox said, "I want voters to see the real me."
The two adult entertainers are not the first to have Italian mayoral political aspirations.
Last September, ex-star and radical politician Cicciolina, made public her aspirations of becoming mayor of the northern Italian town of Monza.
She also caused a stir in Rome over her demand for a government pension and called for a new political party to counter her country’s corrupt politics.
The 59-year-old Cicciolina, whose real name is Ilona Staller said, "We want to set up an optimistic party of the future. Enough with these parties of profiteers, vote-selling, tenders and corruption.”
"We're thinking of a party of honest people: against the military and in favor of the rights of the weak. I would go among the people to listen to their problems," she said.
