Playboy to Consolidate L.A.-area Offices in Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Playboy Enterprises Inc. plans on consolidating its Los Angeles-area editorial and marketing offices, agreeing to take 45,000 square feet in an office park adjacent to  Beverly Hills' City Hall.

The move into the former Hilton Hotels headquarters (the hotel chain moved last year to Fairfax, Md.)  is set to take place in May, and will make it an easier commute for Playboy's founder, Hugh Hefner — the new digs are just two miles from his mansion in Holmby Hills.

Playboy currently rents 12,400 square feet in nearby Santa Monica and 63,000 square feet in Glendale, which is about 15 miles away.

Playboy will occupy a floor and a half at a complex at 9336 and 9346 Civic Center Drive called "the Office at Beverly Hills." Lease terms were not disclosed, but the current landlord, Tishman Speyer, is asking for about $4 per square foot per month for space within the complex, according to real estate data provider CoStar Group.

The Office at  Beverly Hills has launched a $30-million makeover of the complex built in the 1980s to spur demand for its commercial real estate property. Playboy has tapped Wolcott Architecture/Interiors of Culver City to design the new offices and plans to blend a vintage aesthetic with a modern twist, the company said.

Playboy's Los Angeles-area offices are home to the magazine's photo studio, as well as some of its editors and writers. Other operations include the Playmate promotions department and Playboy's annual jazz festival, spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey said.
