Exotic Erotic Ball Suddenly Cancels Show

SAN FRANCISCO — A drop in ticket sales, cost overruns and operational issues are the official reasons why producers of the Exotic Erotic Ball and Expo have canceled this weekend's event.

The sudden cancellation, just one day before the event was scheduled to begin, has some wondering whether the show will continue after 30 years.

XBIZ calls to Exotic Erotic Ball Productions operator Perry Mann went unreturned at post time. Mann and Howard Mauskopf are partners of the event.

The event's publicist could not supply any other details of the cancellation.

"I'm shocked and disappointed just like everybody else," publicist Christopher Buttner told XBIZ.

This year, the event was to be held Friday and Saturday at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond's Marina District. In previous years the event, which historically has been held a week from Halloween, was booked at the Cow Palace and Treasure Island.

The annual event attracts a colorful crowd that comes for the "flesh, fetish, and fantasy, under the undulating umbrella of love, freedom and respect." Past events have included a contingent of stars and celebrities, such as Danny Bonaduce, Snoop Dogg and Tera Patrick, as well as strippers, sexy contortionists. It even included a human petting zoo.

In a statement, the Exotic Erotic Ball and Expo said that ticket holders can file refund claims at point of purchase. At post time, the event's website, ExoticEroticBall.com, was inoperable.

"The producers would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the contractors, and entertainers who worked so hard to try and make this year’s Ball an extraordinary experience," the statement read.

"In addition, they deeply regret causing any disappointment to those fans who have enjoyed attending the ball as a source of entertainment and celebration of personal freedom for the past 30 years."
