Google Launches 'Fiber for Communities' Site

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Search engine giant Google is launching a new site called Google Fiber for Communities to highlight its development of new, experimental ultra-high speed broadband networks.

Google said the site is a place “where you can learn more about fiber networks and keep up-to-date on our project. You’ll also be able to advocate for common sense federal and local policies that would help fiber deployment nationwide."

Google said that over the past several months, the team has been reviewing nearly 1,100 community responses to its request for information, not to mention the nearly 200,000 responses from individuals across the country.

Throughout this process, Google said that one message has come through loud and clear and that is people are hungry for faster Internet access.

Google said it plans to name its target community or communities by the end of the year.
