Canada's Vanessa Channel to Debut Oct. 28

TORONTO — Vanessa will have to live up to industry codes on homegrown content, violence and "equitable portrayals" of the sexes when Canada's first pay-TV porn channel debuts Oct. 28.

Vanessa plans on delivering scores of erotic-themed dramas, reality shows, documentaries and variety and magazine shows, all in the French language for $14.95 a month.

An English-language counterpart promised for the rest of Canada in late 2011.

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission approved its license that forces the broadcaster to air a good portion — 20 percent — to homegrown productions.

Vanessa also will broadcast its soft-core porn content in HD.
