NorthStar Steps Up Piracy Protection

IRVINE, Calif. — During what has become a season of considerable piracy problems for porn producers, adult distribution company NorthStar Associates recently announced a new series of “etched” DVDs the company said would significantly help combat illegal copying of its films.

“We wanted to join the ranks of Evil Angel, Red Light and others in the fight against piracy,” Michael Atkins, marketing director for NorthStar Associates, said.

Atkins said the company wanted to ensure NorthStar Associates’ diverse content line, which includes Peter North’s “North Pole” series and the “Knob Squad” series from Zaye Entertainment, was well protected from the estimated billions adult providers lose every year to illegal copying.

“We have decided to be proactive in this fight,” Atkins said, stressing the company has yet to experience any known piracy abuses.

Atkins said the new etching is being applied to the entire NorthStar Associates line.

“The process puts the graphic onto the DVD in a holographic form so it cannot be photocopied and placed onto a blank burned DVD,” Atkins said. “The etched DVDs look fantastic. It definitely adds to the value of the product and gives us a sense of security about pirating and bootleg products.”

Atkins said the company also recently introduced new packaging to prevent DVDs from being damaged in the mail. The simple process merely adds two clips to the inside sleeves of all NorthStar Associates DVD mailings.

“The two clips keep the DVD in place and prevent any type of movement,” Atkins said. “We have taken two major steps in the right direction here at NorthStar Associates.”
