Steven Hirsch Calls for PSN Distribution

LOS ANGELES — Vivid Entertainment founder Steven Hirsch has called on Sony to make downloadable HD adult movies available through the PlayStation Network.

While the company has yet to make a formal request to Sony, Hirsch said offering adult material through the platform could potentially boost adult business by finding new distribution channels and revenue streams.

"We believe that we owe it to ourselves to explore all opportunities to continue to grow our business," Hirsch told XBIZ.

Last month, a Japanese company, DMM.tv, developed a service that allows its users to stream high-definition porn via Sony’s PlayStation3 gaming console. The technology is currently only available in Japan.

Through BD Live technology, users can log into the DMM.tv Blu-ray website to select the titles, which are then remotely accessible on the PS3.

In a report, Hirsch called the launch of DMM’s service “a good start.”

"As long as proper age verification is in place there is no reason why consumers should not be allowed to view adult movies on any device that they desire," Hirsch said.
