Tan, sitting in the makeup chair, also riffs on directors who ask her to "speak Asian."
"I say, 'What language? What dialect?' I'll be throwing in Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean. And they put in phony subtitles anyway," Tan says. "People meet me at the shows and they ask if I speak English," and then she starts talking in broken English: "I no speak English too many time on video, bit every once in a while dey make me speak English some-time. You want French tip nail?" while her hairdresser cracks up.
