Industry Raises Money for 2257 Defense

CANOGA PARK, Calif. – The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) wishes to recognize a number of companies for their efforts over the past several months organizing fundraising events to benefit the 2257 Legal Defense Fund, which was established earlier this year to raise donations that go exclusively to pay for the FSC legal challenge to the revamped federal labeling and record-keeping laws. These companies, along with many others, have heard the call, recognized the need, and responded in ways that should make the entire industry proud.

The following companies sponsored the Porn Poker Tournament, which debuted at the Internext Convention in Hollywood, Florida this summer. The winner of the tournament, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated all winnings to the 2257 Legal Defense Fund on behalf of the sponsors: Camz.com, SammySmack.com, NetBilling.com, PluginFeeds.com, MrSkinCash.com, Eroticy.com, DatingGold.com and JupiterHosting.com.

Another fundraiser was held Oct. 1 and 2 by X-Factor, which had a booth at the Rainbows Festival, a gay and lesbian street festival attended by more than 20,000 in downtown Phoenix, Ariz. As a way of raising donations and public awareness about FSC, X-Factor had a "Buck A Duck" carnival game where visitors could donate a dollar and select a plastic duck floating in a tub. Some ducks had dots, which corresponded to DVDs, posters and other prizes donated by several studios, including All Worlds Video, Lucas Entertainment, Manplay and Titanmen.com. Everyone who played received a brochure about FSC and a safer sex kit and locker pass donated by Elbow Grease lube and Arizona Chute men’s club. All proceeds were donated to the Free Speech Coalition.

As FSC begins a second round of fundraising for the 2257 Legal Defense Fund, it wants to remind its valued members, as well as those who are not yet members but who share its concerns, that it is available to help promote fundraising activities over the holiday season, and during upcoming trade events such as Webmaster Access West in November and the AEE/Internext tradeshow in Las Vegas in Jan. 2006.
