SX Video Embraces Digital Future With VOD Site

SAN DIEGO — All-male specialty studio SX Video has launched SXMembers.com, a membership site offering video-on-demand as well as a revamped affiliate program.

"This new site is just one more way we can meet the needs of our customers. They requested the ability to watch our videos [on] their own schedule. We listened," said director and company principal Ben Baird.

The entire SX Video catalog as well as new web-exclusive content will be made available to members, who will receive a discount on subsequent purchases via the studio's web store.

That fresh content will later be compiled for release to the DVD market, an emergent trend in gay adult and a business model that Baird said is "the future of porn" as demand for DVDs decreases.

"Just as in the music industry where people are switching from the hard-copy media of CDs to online or electronic delivery, the same trend is now [affecting] video entertainment," Baird told XBIZ.

"Blockbuster and Netflix both offer online services. In the adult video world, you only have to look at the popularity of adult VOD websites such as AEBN, Hot Movies and Maleflixxx to see that is where consumers are going," he said.

DVD sales are "still good" for SX Video, Baird notes. However, "we have seen an increase in requests for online options. With so much porn out there, our consumer wants options. How many times have you watched a DVD and liked two or three scenes out of four? With streaming video, our consumer can zero in on just what he wants and skip the rest."

In related news, SX Video released "Bareback Fuckers" earlier this year featuring the U.S.-film debut of popular European performer Janos Volt.
