After performing as Jessica Lange's stunt double in the 1976 version of "King Kong," Kelly entered the adult business in 1979, appearing in "That Lucky Stiff" opposite Randy West. She turned in a couple of other outstanding performances in "Roommates" in 1982 and "In Love" in 1983, for which she won the Adult Film Association of America's Best Actress award. She has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Free Speech Coalition, and was inducted into the Legends of Erotica Hall of Fame in 1996.
Although Nichols stopped having sex on camera, she has appeared in non-sex and BDSM performances, and works regularly as a makeup artist on adult shoots.
