AdultRental Adds Full-Movie DivX Downloads

TORONTO — Video-on-demand service AdultRental has started offering full-length DVD downloads in the high-quality DivX format.

“It is hard to deny that the video store business model has become an antiquated system. As long as you’re not counting those tiny ones and zeros, the distribution of digital media has transcended physicality," AdultRental Product manager Chris Marion said. "Why waste time and effort driving across town to grab a disc — not to mention the risk of public embarrassment — when with just a few mouse clicks the same results are easily achieved." More than 100 million DivX certified products have reportedly been shipped to the market, including DVD players and gaming consoles.

“The vast dissemination of DivX technology allows us at Adult Rental to move our product from the restraints of the tabletop to the richer and more comfortable surroundings of the home theater,” Marion said. "Selling DVDs online is nothing new. What makes this enterprise particularly interesting is the empowerment aspect. The consumer is totally in the know. Rather than judging a movie by its cover, the shopper can preview, literally, every second, and then decide if it is a keeper or a single-use experience."

AdultRental offers innovative services including its new Ajax custom theater, HD streaming and by-the-second-billing.

“VOD is still our bread and butter, but adding diversification has always been and continues to be our standing orders around here,” Marion said. “With our DivX application, you can download a movie, burn it, drop it into your DivX-certified DVD player, and watch it like a regular DVD. Nothing is lost. you get the same picture and audio quality of a store bought DVD.”
