Andrew Blake to Street 'Night Trips: A Dark Odyssey' Dec. 16

LOS ANGELES — Twenty years after the initial release of his classic "Night Trips," filmmaker Andrew Blake has announced a Dec. 16 street date for his new "Night Trips: A Dark Odyssey," starring Brazilian performer Paola Rey.

"It's been 20 years, and my style has come a long way from that," Blake told XBIZ. "It's gone from a narrative to a more abstract approach. I didn't want to duplicate the first one in any way, and I didn't want to go back to the same scenario again because it's too narrative for me at this point, so I've taken this more free-flowing approach that juxtaposes images against each other.

"I think it gives you a more erotic feel. It's a barrage of images."

Blake shot "Night Trips: A Dark Odyssey" on Super 16 film.

"In an industry that has left film behind in favor of video production, I will continue to shoot on film for years to come," Blake said. "Film gives the images a one-step-removed quality that can't be duplicated in HD video. Remember that film is the original 100-plus-year-old high definition medium."

In the new "Night Trips," Rey portrays a sex addict, as did Tori Welles in the original, who finds that the trusted people around her are eager to exploit her weakness. Emotionally troubled by the spiraling replay of her compulsive sexual obsessions, she attempts to escape from the temptations of her dark odyssey.

Rey performs in one scene with male newcomer Aaron Wilcox in a swimming pool. Faye Reagan — star of Blake's "Paid Companions" — Kelly Summer, Charlotte Stokely, Otto Bauer, Natasha Nice, Sophia Santi, Kira Lane, Eric Swiss and Essi-X make up the cast.

The original "Night Trips" starred Tori Welles, Marc De Bruin, Tanya deVries, Porsche Lynn, Peter North, Victoria Paris, Randy Spears, Jamie Summers and Ray Victory. The new "Night Trips: A Dark Odyssey" features mostly girl/boy scenes, similar to the original film.
