Tristan Taormino Sets Portland, Ore., Appearance

PORTLAND, Ore — Author/director/lecturer Tristan Taormino will appear at the Spartacus store in Portland on Friday, Nov. 14, to present a workshop entitled "Kinky Possibilities: Open Relationships in the Scene."

Taormino's latest book, "Opening Up: a Guide to Creating and Sustaining Open Relationships," explores the spectrum of non-monogamous relationships and gives practical advice as to how to create and maintain them. To complement the book, Taormino has created the "Kinky Possibilities: Open Relationships in the Scene" workshop.

"People who practice BDSM and those who are in dominant/submissive relationships face unique challenges in both designing their open relationships and making them work," says Taormino's website, PuckerUp.com. "[This workshop] offers practical advice and strategies for dealing with specific issues related to being open and kinky. We’ll cover common open relationship styles within BDSM communities and how they can work best; creative ways for giving everyone a voice in the negotiation process; dealing with jealousy and other intense feelings; and practical conflict resolution skills. In the interactive facilitated portion of the workshop, participants will be encouraged to share their stories, issues and solutions."

Taormino is an award-winning author, columnist, editor, and sex educator. Her books include "The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women" and "Down and Dirty Sex Secrets," a straightforward guide that covers everything from basic anatomy to basic S&M. She and her work have appeared in publications ranging from the New York Times to Penthouse, and on television shows including HBO's "Real Sex" and Fox News. She also has lectured at a number of universities including Yale, Brown, Columbia, Smith, Vassar and NYU.

The Spartacus store is located at 300 SW 12th Ave. in Portland, Ore. The workshop begins at 7 p.m. There is no charge. No persons under 18 will be admitted to the event.
