Webcasters Aid Self-Love Fundraising Efforts

TORONTO — As charity-minded individuals get set to pull for good causes at Masturbate-a-Thon fundraising events in cities across North America, several adult companies also are lending a hand with free webcasting services.

Homegrown Video and Orgy for World Peace both will webcast the festivities at no charge to help boost awareness and participation, marking the first-ever truly global Masturbate-a-Thon.

First introduced by San Francisco-based Good Vibrations retail stores in 1995, the Masturbate-a-Thon concept has caught on in other cities as well, motivating people to think globally while masturbating locally.

On May 14, Toronto’s Come As You Are boutique will be sponsoring a group-groping event to raise money for the National Coalition of Sexual Freedom.

Amateur adult entertainment personality Seska Lee will host the evening of self-pleasure for a cause, during which women who have never touched themselves in public before will bare all for thousands of generous voyeurs via the web.

“Since 1998, we’ve been holding the Masturbate-a-Thon, and the most commonly asked question has been, ‘Where can I watch?’” Come As You Are co-owner Cory Silverberg said. “This year, we decided to answer that question and let people give to a worthy cause and indulge their voyeuristic interests all at the same time.”

Internet surfers can watch — and, in all likelihood, participate — when they make donations starting at $9.95. In an effort to drive night-of-event donations, neither Homegrown Video nor Orgy for World Peace will archive the event.

Pledge forms are available at ComeAsYouAre.com/masturbate.

Portland, Ore.-based Darklady will sponsor a sister event, Cum for a Cause, on the same evening, followed by Good Vibrations’ happening on May 28. Both will benefit the Center for Sex and Culture.
