Sharon Mitchell Won't Testify in Rape Trial

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Dr. Sharon Mitchell, co-founder of the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation of Sherman Oaks, Calif., will not testify in the Orange County rape trial involving three young men accused of drugging and raping a young girl on video.

Gregory Scott Haidl, 18, Kyle Joseph Nachreiner, 19, and Keith James Spann, 19, are each charged with 24 counts of felony sexual assault and face maximum sentences of 55 years in prison if convicted.

They are accused of gang-raping a then-16-year-old girl on a pool table in the Haidl family residence.

Mitchell, having starred in an estimated 2,000 porn films, was originally called upon by the defense as an expert witness to determine whether the 21-minute videotape of the alleged rape was intended to look like a porn film.

According to a Los Angeles Times report, Mitchell's testimony was intended to directly contradict testimony from a former narcotics detective who claimed the girl had been given a date-rape drug before the men had sex with her.

Mitchell told Orange County Superior Court Judge Francisco Briseño in a preliminary hearing that she thought the three young men had intended to make an amateur porn video out of the incident, which further suggests that the girl was somehow involved.

Earlier testimony from other witnesses claim the young woman had voluntarily been part of the plan to create a home-style porn movie. But three weeks after the incident and after seeing the video, she decided to file rape charges.

"All in all, I thought this was a very amateurish attempt at making a porn film," Mitchell told the judge.

The judge decided that Mitchell's opinion on the quality of the video could easily be determined by a jury and she was dismissed as a witness.

The defense had also intended to call in two other porn actors as expert witnesses who in their professional careers had pretended to be unconscious during sex scenes, information that would support the defense's claims that the girl had faked being under the influence of a drug.

The judge will determine during Thursday hearings whether the two porn stars will be admissible as witnesses.
