CHICAGO — One of the world's largest spam mailers will no longer be writing to you. The unnamed spammers sent billions of ads hawking prescription drugs, male enhancement supplements and diet pills.
According to a report on Yahoo News, over 3 million people have reported violations of the 2003 CAN-SPAM Act to the Federal Trade Commission. The act requires that commercial e-mail include verifiable header information, the ability to opt-out and a postal mailing address.
The operation, referred to as "Affking," was a global operation. According to the Yahoo News report, the chiefs of the spam ring were citizens of the U.S. and New Zealand. The servers were located in China and the drugs were mailed from India. Credit card payments were processed in Cyprus and former the Soviet Republic of Georgia.
