VENICE, Calif. — Flex, a new product that allows couples to have uninterrupted period sex, is set to launch this fall.
According to the company, Flex is a flexible, disc-like shape that contours to the female body, and is virtually undetectable by her or her partner. FLEX works by creating a soft barrier to the cervix, temporarily blocking the flow of menstruation, and is disposed after each use.
The disposable disc-shaped tampons can be worn for up to 12 hours and are hypoallergenic and BPA-free. The Flex Company is currently accepting pre-orders with shipments expected in September.
“Flex is so shockingly comfortable that women tell us they forget they’re on their period while they’re wearing it,” CEO Lauren Schulte told TechCrunch, adding that Flex increases couples’ opportunities for sex by 23 percent; and perhaps subsequently 25 percent of Flex’s trial signups are men.
In The Flex Company’s blog “Why We Created the Anti-Tampon” blog, the company says, “We want something that is more comfortable than a tampon, pad or menstrual cup. We want fewer changes and no leaks. We want something that doesn't smell.
“Something that we aren't embarrassed to buy or carry into the ladies' room. We want something that can help us feel more empowered to be intimate with our lover during that time of the month. And we firmly believe that the products we use should never be the source of infections -- yeast, bacterial or toxic shock.”
In the company’s About Us, The Flex Company CEO and founder Lauren explains why she founded the company.
“Women admitted they felt like they were fighting their own bodies,” she says. “Men admitted that they were curious to know more about the mysterious female body, and that they were too embarrassed or ‘grossed out’ to ask about menstruation. I immediately knew that we had to start a movement to help everyone engage in conversations like these. To me, FLEX is just the beginning.”
