Charmane Star Lands Mainstream Role in 'Catch 22'

NEW YORK — Adult film star Charmane Star is attached to an upcoming mainstream film called "Catch 22: Based On the Unwritten Story of Sean Sugrue."

Star, the cover girl of the May/June issue of Penthouse magazine, has been activively promoting the Kickstarter campaign to fund the film. She has performed in more than 300 adult movies in a career that has spanned more than 15 years.

Star has joined a cast that already includes Al Thompson ("A Walk to Remember," "The Royal Tenenbaums") and Phil Burke (AMC's "Hell On Wheels," "This Is Forty") for the movie that is being produced by NYEH Entertainment.

Josh Folan will direct "Catch 22," billed as "a dark, twisted thriller" scheduled for production in New York in October.

The synopsis reads, “Five life-long, hard-lived friends come to from a debauchery-filled day of celebration alongside an unexplained dead girl, and that's the least of their worries. What are friends for?”

Producers Seanie Sugrue and Josh Folan are approaching financing and distribution in an unorthodox fashion — they made the extended director's cut of the film available for presale on March 25 via Kickstarter.

Reward perks for purchasing the film in advance range from a speaking role as a Chinese food delivery guy/girl in the film, to autographed merchandise and personalized audio and video greetings from the actors. In addition, backers may be eligible to receive wardrobe worn by Star during the filming of the movie.

NYEH Entertainment's first feature-length film venture was the romantic thriller "All God's Creatures," which was released through Osiris Entertainment in May of 2012 after premiering at the 2011 Hoboken International Film Festival. NYEH's second feature, a slacker buddy comedy titled "What Would Bear Do?," was released last August.
