The deal represents the first time that the complete library of Thomas’ 40-plus titles will be available to distributors and retailers in the U.S. and Canada.
The South African-born Thomas is a well-known director of lesbian films. His popular titles include the “Pink Velvet” trilogy, “Office Girls” and “The Art of Kissing.”
Thomas produced the majority of his work in London, but when a British court ruled in 2004 that hardcore DVDs could only be sold in licensed sex shops in the U.K., Thomas moved his operation to Portugal.
Girlfriends Distribution also operates a production arm. Born out of a UCLA film class, Girlfriends Films shies away from using established, “big name” porn stars in its movies, and instead focuses on real-life girlfriends, or amateur girls with little exposure in adult films in hopes of capturing realistic, true-to-life lesbian content, Girlfriends Films President Dan O’Connell said.
Girlfriends Films shoots two primary lines, “Women Seeking Women” and “Lesbian Seductions – Older/Younger.
