.XXX Passed Over By FSC

CHATSWORTH – In a surprise to many members of the adult entertainment industry, the Board of Directors of the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) voted not to support the proposal to add a ".xxx" suffix to the top-level domain (TLD) registry.

The proposal to add the domain suffix that more appropriately identifies adult porn sites was introduced by Jason Hendeles of Canada-based ICM Registry.

The many benefits of having a ".xxx" registration could motivate adult content providers to voluntarily host their content from the ".xxx" domain.

The FSC is just one of many organizations that Hendeles intends to pursue for support before submitting a formal proposal to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the governing body for the Internet.

The FSC was reportedly unresponsive to Hendeles proposal and was not interested in being represented on the ".xxx" governing board, or the offer of cash incentives for each URL registered under the new TLD.

According to reports, the board voted unanimously not to send a letter of endorsement to ICANN.

Hendeles' push for the adoption of ".xxx" has gained widespread industry support from leading companies in the adult world who aspire to a rightful distinction from other areas of online industry.

The ".xxx" suffix has been on the table for many years, although Hendeles has made recent efforts to revive the push for the new TLD and plans to submit an application to ICANN in the coming weeks.
